Video update, Wed May 13: Check out Module 1 reflection materials!

Howdy!

We’re finally underway! I invite you to check out Module 1. I’m still waiting on one last answer for the tech folks on the best way for me to add in the lecture videos into a carousel so playback is nice and clear for you, but our “Reflection” materials are ready for you to watch and listen to. This week you’ll read an itty bitty chapter from a lovely book called “The Serviceberry” and listen to a podcast from the NY Times called “Consider the Burying Beetle (Or Else)” and then you have a one-paragraph reflection assignment. All of this is clearly explained in the module.

I recommend you get in the habit of starting in Canvas by navigating to the Modules tab, scrolling down to find our current week, and get a sense of what I’ve posted there. The main module page will always be the first item, followed by direct links to the week’s “Knowledge Check” and “Reflection” assignments, as well as all additional relevant materials, links, or templates. Please note, because this has been such a clunky start to our summer semester I won’t enforce a late penalty for this first reflection, just try to get it in by the first couple days of next week, and there is not a Knowledge Check for the first week’s lecture, either. (That should be posted for you by tomorrow morning, just a half hour or so of introductory concepts.)

Please fill out our “Lab Schedule Survey” with your availability so I can create lab groups that have aligned schedules and a mixture of natural resource/environmental studies majors and non-majors. Also note that I’ve created a full class “Ask questions here first” discussion board in the welcome module.

Enjoy the first two reflection materials!

Video update, Fri May 8: Welcome to Living With Wildlife!

Well, this has not been the first week any of us expected, but sometimes in life we have to just go with the flow! I’m hearing that Canvas should be fully functional by Monday, but I will maintain my backup plan just in case so that for the rest of the summer you can enjoy a smooth learning experience with or without the Canvas platform. I recorded a welcome video for you (and oof, I will not be pursuing a career as an influencer any time soon, that’s for sure) so give it a watch for a course overview, rundown of the syllabus, and explanation of what to expect each week. I know some of you will be juggling summer jobs and travel plans, so I’ve made a Vacation/Schedule Adjustment Google Form for you to notify me if you need to request any assignments early or would like to request an extension on a due date. This helps me keep track of things in one place. If you have any additional questions about the course, shoot me an email, and I’ll start compiling answers to questions here on this web page as an FAQ for all to see. Happy weekend!
